In this article

Adults with ADHD

ADHD Support Australia (58,000+ members)
The largest Australian ADHD Facebook group. For adults, parents, carers, teens, and professionals. Active daily discussions on diagnosis, medication, daily life, and workplace challenges.

Women and mums

ADHD in women was historically underdiagnosed. AIHW data from 2023-24 shows women now outnumber men on ADHD medication in every adult age group. These communities reflect that shift. For more on why women are only now being identified, see our piece on what the AIHW data shows about women and ADHD diagnosis in Australia.

Mums with ADHD – Australia
For mothers with ADHD. Late diagnosis, parenting with ADHD, managing daily life, medication during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

ADHD Mums Podcast Community
Community around Jane McFadden’s ADHD Mums podcast. For neurodivergent mothers looking for connection and practical strategies.

Focused Femmes: Women With ADHD
For women with ADHD. Support, discussion, and shared experiences.

Parents of children with ADHD

Parents for ADHD Advocacy Australia
For parents advocating for their children. Covers policy, school support, awareness campaigns, and working through the system.

ADHD Parents Support Group
For parents of children with ADHD. Diagnosis questions, medication, school accommodations, and peer support.

State and city groups

State-specific groups are useful because ADHD assessment, prescribing rules, and wait times vary by state. What applies in Queensland does not necessarily apply in Victoria or NSW. Queensland in particular has different rules since the GP-led ADHD assessment pathway opened in December 2025.

Queensland
Brisbane Adult ADHD (B.A.D.H.D) – Social support group for adults in South East Queensland.

Victoria
ADHD Melbourne – Adults in Melbourne and regional Victoria. Fact-based, supportive environment.
ADHD support for Melbourne Mums and Dads – Parents in Melbourne.

Western Australia
ADHD Support Group Perth – Adults in Perth.

South Australia
Adelaide Adults with ADHD – Adults in Adelaide.

If you know of groups for Tasmania, ACT, NT, or regional areas not listed here, let us know in the comments and we will add them.

Reddit communities

Reddit works differently from Facebook. Discussions are threaded, searchable, and archived. If you want to read about other people’s experiences with a specific assessment process or find state-specific information, Reddit’s search function is useful.

r/ausadhd (30,000+ weekly visitors)
The main Australian ADHD subreddit. State-specific flairs. Active discussions on assessment, medication, reform updates, costs, and lived experience. Rules require you to include your state in your post.

r/adhdwomen
For women with ADHD. International but many Australian members. Covers late diagnosis, hormones, workplace challenges, and relationships.

r/ADHD (2.2 million members)
The largest ADHD forum online. Global community. Useful for general ADHD questions, research discussions, and medication experiences.

Discord servers

Discord is real-time chat. If you prefer live conversation over forum-style posts, these servers offer that.

Aussie ADHD
An Australian ADHD Discord server for real-time chat and support.

r/ausadhd Discord
The Discord server linked from the r/ausadhd subreddit. Same community, different format.

Podcasts

Podcasts are a good way to learn about ADHD on your own time. These are hosted by Australians with lived experience, covering diagnosis, medication, relationships, parenting, and daily life with ADHD.

National organisations and helplines

These are established organisations that offer phone support, clinician directories, speaker events, and structured resources. They are a good starting point if you are newly diagnosed or do not know where to begin.

The Australian ADHD Clinical Practice Guideline (AADPA, 2022) specifically recommends that clinicians inform people receiving an ADHD diagnosis about “local and national support groups and voluntary organisations” (Recommendation 2.3.2). The resources below are a starting point.

ADHD Foundation Australia

Information, assessment recommendations, and counsellor support. National service.

ADHD Australia

FAQ

Are these ADHD support groups free to join?

Yes. Every community listed here is free. The Facebook groups, Reddit communities, and Discord servers are all volunteer-run or charity-run. The national organisations offer free helplines and free online events. Some organisations also offer paid services (counselling, seminars) but membership and basic support are free.

Do I need a formal ADHD diagnosis to join these groups?

Most groups welcome people at any stage. Whether you have a formal diagnosis, are waiting for an assessment, or suspect you have ADHD and are still figuring it out, you are welcome. Some groups specify this in their rules. Check the group description before joining. If you are wondering whether to pursue a formal assessment, our guide on whether a GP can assess and prescribe for ADHD in Australia explains your options.

Which group should I join if I am newly diagnosed with ADHD?

Start with the ADHD Support Australia Facebook group (58,000+ members). It covers the widest range of topics and has the most active membership. If you are a woman or mother, Mums with ADHD – Australia or Focused Femmes are more specific. If you prefer listening, the ADHD Mums podcast by Jane McFadden is a good starting point. If you want phone support, call the ADHD Foundation helpline on 1300 39 39 19. It is also worth reading our guide on how to prepare for your first ADHD assessment with a GP before your appointment.

Are there ADHD support groups for specific Australian states?

Yes. Brisbane Adult ADHD covers South East Queensland. ADHD Melbourne covers Victoria. ADHD Support Group Perth covers Western Australia. Adelaide Adults with ADHD covers South Australia. On Reddit, r/ausadhd uses state flairs so you can filter by your state. If you know of groups for Tasmania, ACT, or NT, let us know and we will add them.

What is the difference between Facebook groups and Reddit for ADHD support?

Facebook groups are community-focused. You join, post questions, and get replies from other members. Conversations are real-time and feel more personal. Reddit is forum-style with threaded discussions that stay searchable long after they are posted. If you want to read about other people’s experiences with a specific assessment process, Reddit’s search and archive is more useful. Both are valuable for different reasons.

Is there an ADHD helpline in Australia?

Yes. The ADHD Foundation Australia operates a national helpline at 1300 39 39 19. Counsellors can provide ADHD information, assessment recommendations, and help you find local resources. For crisis support, Lifeline is available 24/7 at 13 11 14.

Are there any Australian ADHD podcasts?

Yes. ADHD Mums by Jane McFadden is the most popular Australian ADHD podcast with over 1 million downloads. Awaken ADHD by Jade Bonney features diagnosis stories from Australians. Not Your Neurotypical by Raelene Sebastian covers neurodivergent lived experience. The ADHD Adults Podcast covers evidence-based information for adults. All are free on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.
