About Dr Skinner

Dr Sandra Skinner is a specialist GP based in Agnes Water, Queensland. She conducts structured ADHD assessments for adults via telehealth, making specialist-level care accessible to patients across the state without the need for a psychiatrist referral.

Since Queensland’s reform in December 2025, qualified GPs can independently diagnose and prescribe stimulant medications for adult ADHD. Dr Skinner uses Velluto’s structured intake tools to collect your history, screening results, and observer reports before your first appointment. This means your consultation time is spent on clinical assessment rather than paperwork.

She worked as a psychiatry registrar at Townsville Hospital for 12 months in 2006 before relocating to Cape York and then Charters Towers to complete obligations for a rural health medical scholarship. She commenced specialising as a GP in 2007. In 2011 Sandra topped the state of Queensland in the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners Fellowship OSCE (viva) examination, and was awarded the Maureen Duke and Marian Sullivan Memorial Award.

What to expect

  • A structured clinical assessment based on the AADPA guideline
  • Pre-consultation questionnaires sent before your appointment via Velluto
  • A thorough review of your history, symptoms, and daily functioning
  • Same-day diagnosis and treatment plan where clinically appropriate
  • Ongoing medication management and follow-up appointments

Velluto is Italian for velvet. The Velluto Method is the name for the ADHD pre-consultation intake we have designed and our GP use at MySpecialistGP: one question at a time, never a wall of text, completed from your phone in your own time.

Testimonials of those who have used the Velluto Method

It’s really straightforward. It walks you through one question at a time, it looks beautiful, and being able to answer by voice was genuinely helpful. There was never a point where I wasn’t sure what to do next.

Did the Velluto Method

It gamified the whole thing, and it wasn’t so complex that it put me off giving a proper answer. Best of all, I didn’t have to keep repeating myself. The whole process was incredibly smooth.

I really liked the step-by-step flow. It avoids a wall of text and makes it clear what to focus on, and you can see how many steps there are and your progress. No frustrating moments, no errors, and the reminders were timely.

Important: Medicare rebates and telehealth

Medicare rebates for telehealth consultations only apply if one of these is true:

  1. You have previously seen this GP in person
  2. You are registered with MyMedicare and have selected Basalt Medical as your regular practice

If neither applies, you will not receive a Medicare rebate for telehealth consultations. You will pay the full consultation fee.

Before changing your MyMedicare practice: Registering Basalt Medical as your MyMedicare practice means your current GP can no longer claim certain Medicare items for your care. This is your choice. We encourage you to speak with your current practice before making any changes.

Included with this appointment

The Velluto Method

By the time you get to an appointment you have already done something hard. So the preparation happens before it, on your phone, at your pace.

  • Your intake arrives the moment you pay. A personal link by email, and by text if you gave us your mobile. No login, no app to download.
  • Questionnaires, 20 to 30 minutes. One question at a time. Stop whenever you like and pick it up where you left off.
  • Your history, 10 to 15 minutes. Medical and mental health background, written down once at home instead of recalled under pressure in the room.
  • Somewhere to put your paperwork. Old reports, school records, letters. Upload them and they are on file before you meet.
  • All of it reaches Dr Skinner before your appointment, so the consultation is spent on you rather than on filling in forms.

Payment & cancellation policy: Full payment is required to confirm your appointment. Your intake is sent as soon as you pay, so a small amount is retained to cover what the booking has already cost. Cancel more than 48 hours before your appointment and you will be refunded your fee less a cancellation fee. The amount is shown before you pay. Cancel within 48 hours of your appointment and 50% of the fee is retained. The rest is refunded automatically. If you move your appointment within 48 hours of it, the late cancellation fee applies to any cancellation after that, whenever it happens. If you do not attend and have not cancelled, the fee is not refunded. If the practice cancels your appointment, you are refunded in full, including the cancellation fee. Medicare rebates are claimed separately after your consultation.
