The gold standard for ADHD diagnosis is a clinical assessment against the DSM-5 criteria, which both psychiatrists and trained GPs follow. If your presentation is complex — significant trauma history, possible bipolar disorder, or active psychosis — a psychiatrist is the right choice. Your GP can refer you if needed.
